Post Paleo FAQ - add your ?s here!
on: August 30, 2011, 12:18

Hello everyone!

I have received requests for a Paleo FAQ page, and would love to provide on as a static page on the website. What are some questions you have or have heard most with regards to the Paleo Diet?

Please post them here, and I will incorporate them into the upcoming Paleo FAQ page!

Ex: If I can't eat grains, what do I have for breakfast?

What do I serve my friends when they come over? No chips for the salsa or buns for the burgers!

I'm split on this, because really you'd be doing them a favor if you fed them Paleo, but chances are they'll notice and be a bit irked. You can serve all the "typical" gathering foods, you just have to have the will power to resist eating them yourself. Maybe if somebody sees you eating a burger without the bun they will be curious and ask why, which give you an opportunity to TELL THEM!

Otherwise, veggie platters are great paleo snacks, and many veggies are delicious dipped in salsa or guacamole. If you're going to feed them a meal, why not go with some really tasty butternut squash and a rib-eye? I'd be happy if I were them.

Any other ideas?

What is your opinion on including/discluding egg YOLK from my diet? I am normally used to eating only egg whites hard boiled or in an omelette scrambled with other veggies, but I see that the 7-day plan includes whole eggs with yolk. I've heard the yolks have a lot of vitamins, but I've avoided them in the past because of the extra calories. What is your take?

If you are used to eating egg whites and you prefer that, no need to change. However, you are correct, there's tons of good stuff in the yolk- for starters they contain choline, Vitamin A, and Vitamin D. The egg white contains about half the protein of the whole egg.

The good news: you don't have to worry about calories on the Paleo Diet... if you stick to the guidelines of lean meats, fruits, and veggies, you can NOT gain weight. It's fabulous. If you are not going to stick to the diet 85% or more, then it's not that simple... but the moral of the story is that calories are not the culprit here...
