Here at PrimalHealthyFit.com, we recommend one specific diet. The benefits of this diet are many and HUGE (like alleviating allergies, joint pain, heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, obesity, preventing cancers, healing auto-immune diseases, improving sleep and mood, and countless other enormous perks)! However, before we introduce you to this diet, we would like to tell the story of its long-lived, successful history.
Our conundrum as humans:
Homo sapiens (that’s us) have been around for approximately 200,000 years. After the end of the Ice Age, farming was born. This is officially called the Neolithic Revolution, and it marks the change of our genetics for the worse. We got shorter, our bones became softer, and pretty much every modern disease known to man began to appear. Despite these changes, our insides have changed very little. This revolution brought about many great things, and without it, we would not have advanced as a species the way we have. Unfortunately, our bodies have not adapted to the drastic changes our diet experienced as a result of the agricultural revolution, and that has created quite the problem (pictured below).
The only foods our bodies can “handle,” or process correctly, are the ones that were around before the agricultural revolution. That time span includes 95% of our species’ existence! Starting to make sense why we have not had enough time to adapt to the “new foods” that cavemen and women did not have easy access to? When we eat grains, legumes, dairy, and processed sugars (and all the other food inventions of recent history), our insides get literally destroyed, our bodies become insulin resistant or intolerant, we become inflamed, we get fat, and we get sick- REALLY sick.
Side note: If you are making an argument in your head about how we are healthier as a species now than we were 100,000 years ago, you are unfortunately mistaken. The life expectancy of Homo sapiens was shorter then NOT because of disease, malnutrition, or other health issues, but because of DANGER! Lives are cut short more often when dinner can eat you first.
Oh-no! What shall we do?
Don’t fret, luckily a vast amount of anthropological research has been done to discover just what our cavemen ancestors ate that kept them so healthy, and hence what WE need to eat to stay healthy as well. The result of this research is the Paleo Diet, the #1 Recommended Diet here at PrimalHealthyFit.com. The Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet is the original human diet. It’s the way we ate for 95% of our existence, and the only way our body knows how to eat. If you read the Diet main page, you already understand why eating this way is so important. The Paleo diet is not so much a “diet” as it is a lifestyle choice about the way you eat. Taking a step backwards in time with your diet...
Paleo Meal Plan
We have provided a 7-day Paleo Diet meal plan that requires little knowledge of cooking. Each recipe is portioned for one person, assuming you couldn’t wrangle anybody else you know into doing this with you. Oftentimes grocery shopping for “new food” can be the most frustrating part of a diet change. Because of this, we have also provided a matching shopping list to make your trip to the grocery story quick and easy...
Paleo Action Plan
Honestly, starting the Paleo Diet sucks... or at least it did for me. I put together a 4-step 'guide' of sorts to help you just get started, because sometimes you need help ripping off the bandaid, so to speak. I want to help you make this change, because it was one of the best decisions I ever made and I feel incredibly better because of what I eat now. Good luck!
Here you will find real-life stories about how choosing to eat Paleo has changed people’s lives for the better. Check out my husband Carlos's before and after pictures - they show him losing 15 pounds in a month and a half, but it's about so much more than weight. Read his story...
Methods and Tracking
In this section we discuss two different approaches you can take to switching to the Paleo Diet: with a 30-Day Paleo Challenge, or using the 3-step method. We also give you some ways you can track your progress and improvements. Check it out!
